November 3rd, 2010

November 3rd, 2010 by Terri

Time is flying by…this year is almost over. Hayden and Harrison had their 6 month checkup…all is well. Hayden weighs 14.6 now, and Harrison 15.3. Doc says they are perfect! Halloween was fun. Dressed them up in Superman and Batman outfits. Harrison immediately spit-up on his. I don’t recall Batman ever wearing a bib. Went to one house across the street for trick-or-trick and spent the next few hours passing out 225 pieces of candy to all the neighborhood kids. Hayden watched it all, taking it all in. Harrison passed out asleep after about 45 minutes. Last Halloween on our old street…sniff sniff.

Well, our lot of land has been cleared finally. whoohoo! We kept a ton of trees but this was a huge step in our home building process. We went out this weekend and looked at our dirt pad where the house will go. They are supposed to frame the pad and start working on slab now. I can’t wait to see it framed up…a real 3D image so we can see how it’s gonna look. So excited. Jason and I walked the land and surprisingly didn’t see any critters. I was expecting at least one snake. I’m taking that as a sign that all critters, present and future, have left our land and won’t be returning. We’ll see. It was great “crunching” around in the country. There’s something about crackling twigs and leaves beneath your feet that is very therapeutic. The fact that the land you are crackling on will soon be your backyard is awesome.

I’ve got a TON of new pictures to get loaded onto here….going to try to work on that soon. The boys are changing and growing very quickly these days.

Sept. 29th…Keeping busy…

September 29th, 2010 by Terri

Hi all! Things are going very well at Casa de Glim. Hayden and Harrison are growing like weeds. Hayden weighing 13.4 and Harrison at 14.2 pounds now. They are eating banana oatmeal, peas, squash, and sweet potatoes so far. No surprise, but my boys LOVE food!! They are 24 weeks old already (roughly 5 1/2 months)…I can’t believe it. Both are rolling over. Hayden the athlete is scooting on his tummy all over his crib. He wakes up in the middle of the night trapped in the corner, needing rescue. Harrison has kinda decided that anything good is above him so he’s content staying on his back most of the time, haha!

They are easier to handle now so I’ve been venturing out with them more. We are going to the park and walking around the track since the weather is starting to get cooler. They wore tiny little baseball caps for the first time too!! I put them on for cuteness, but surprisingly they actually blocked some sun.

Their first Halloween is coming up, yeah!! We’ve decided that Charming Hayden will be Superman. If you have ever held him you know why. When held upright on his feet he will push off of you to extend his legs in the air…flying like Superman. He even pulls one knee to his chest to get the pose correct. :) And…Harrison, my quiet, mysterious man of intrigue, will be Batman. No explanation necessary. He’s not as noisy as Hayden (who is really?), but when you look into his eyes you can see all kinds of wheels churning. I’ve decided that Hayden is my “scanner” (takes the whole room in), and Harrison is my “studier”, (focuses on someone and sizes them up). We are getting full-blown laughs out of both of them. The only better noise in this world will be “Mommy” coming from them.

I’m still taking Aikido two nights a week. For those that don’t know it’s a martial art that uses your opponent’s weight and momentum against them, non-aggressive, non-competitive martial art form. Unlike Karate that I did years ago, it’s no sparring, no kata, just self-defense form. Google “Steven Seagal Aikido” and you can see all kinds of footage of it. I think the word Aikido translates to “1,000 ways to break someone’s wrist and throw them on the ground”. :) Other than a sore neck, and a ripped muscle in my ribcage that left me unable to move for a few days, it’s been great! There comes a point in your life when either because of your age, or BMI, that your rear-end really shouldn’t go over your head. Live and learn. SO glad to be in it though….it’s brought back a lot of memories and sparked a fire in me regarding martial arts. Watch out world. I remember back in the 90’s when I first started Karate. My Mom’s face when she first saw me in the uniform, the sparring gear and a black mouthpiece was priceless. Then she commented that her little girl used to take tap and ballet. I think she soon saw that I was more suited to this over ballet.

Heading to my GI today. I’m almost certain I’m having a Crohns flare. I was told after having the babies to be on the lookout for it, as my immune system would calm down and go back to normal. I think my body has just now realized what all has happened to it over the last year. I figure I’ll be on steroids for a few months and it’ll take care of it. This should make Aikido more interesting…add in some “roid-rage”, haha! I’m not worried about it, but want to have things checked out before it gets worse. Even the doctor agrees, I know my body better than anyone else.

We are about to close on our construction loan in a week or so. Then the house building experience begins. We are SO excited!! Jason and I have been planning this house since we met and it’s finally happening. Plenty of room for ALL of us (and our stuff), and we’ll be out in the country with some major trees! Plenty of room for the boys and dogs to run around like little maniacs. I need to get used to the idea of dirt all over the place. :) Jason excited about putting a gun range in backyard, me excited about archery range next to it. We are still discussing/arguing about where the beehives will go. I think I’m going to lose this battle, but I’m hoping I can slowly just start sneaking bees into the property. He loves having honey with his biscuits, what’s the big deal?!?

Harrison has learned how to make raspberry noises with his mouth. Everytime I walk by him he does it at me…then smiles.

Hayden has been rolling over onto tummy on demand. He gears up, smiles, throws one leg in the air and whoosh!….rolls over and does a push up. He’s learned this is the best way to grab a pacifier that has fallen out of his mouth.

Harrison rolls over too, but by accident I think. Once over, he struggles for a few minutes then falls asleep. :)

So H&H finally had their first conversation last night, good eye contact, smiling at each other, kicking each others feet. Up until now they really haven’t paid much attention to each other. It was wonderful to experience, but now my thoughts have turned to realizing that they will soon go into cohoots with each other and start plotting against Mommy. I had a good run of control for 5 months I guess. :)

Boys had their 4 month checkup today. Hard to believe they are 19 weeks old already. Crazy. Doc said they are just perfect!…tell me something I don’t know! :) Harrison weighing 12.13 (up from 11.1) and Hayden at 11.10 (up from 10.1 in July). Dr. Anderson commented that they have totally different personalities now. Hayden was anxious, ready to go, fussy, and I pretty much held him through the whole visit (nevermind the 100 degree heat outside, now I’m holding what feels like a hot puppy). Harrison was asleep on the exam table for the most part. He didn’t even cry after his shots!

A few weeks ago Hayden rolled over onto his tummy. Yelled bloody murder when he got there, but rolled over still. He’s done it a few more times, still doesn’t like where he ends up. Harrison rolled all the way over this week. Middle of the night, flipped over, yelled bloody murder. He did it for the second time today in the doctor’s office. I think he was showing off for Dr. Anderson. This time he rolled over, and pushed up on his arms to look around. Great!! We’ve tried spoon feeding cereal too. Hayden did pretty well, Harrison not ready just yet. We’ll keep working on.

Jason bought our Buzzfest tickets this morning! Whoohoo! 20 bands, all ending with Godsmack headlining! Best part is it will be in October so we can celebrate our 8th year anniversary. Oh, and maybe it won’t be 120 degrees outside by then. I’ll still require a few frosty beverages I’m sure. Guess I need to line up another babysitting entourage for the night. Mommy not coming home afterwards. She’ll be sound asleep in a baby-less hotel room again. :)

What else is new? Me and Lindy are taking an Aikido class two nights a week. For anyone that doesn’t know, (or recall) Lindy was my accomplice many,  many years ago as we journeyed through Karate together. We figured we stopped around 1995ish, somewhere after my Crohn’s diagnosis (my health, and busy life in general got in the way for a time). 15 years ago seems unbelievable. Gonna finish up Aikido in December, then her and I have decided to go back to Karate….finish what we started so long ago!!  :) I can’t wait until the boys are 3 so I can get them started. To see them both in little tiny white gi’s, with little white belts, and big clunky sparring gear is gonna melt my heart. Awwwwwww :)

Thank you to everyone for all of the birthday wishes yesterday!! And thank you for all the congrats and compliments on Hayden & Harrison that came in yesterday as well. It was a hard road getting them here, but SO worth it; they are truly the most amazing people I have ever met. :)

Had our first overnight out away from the babies! Saw Shinedown, Chevelle, Puddle of Mud, Sevendust, and 10 Years. Awesome; just what I needed. Thank you to my babysitting team (of 4!!) for the help. :) Great way to celebrate both Jason and my birthdays. Mommy feels refreshed and young again!

I need glow-in-the-dark pacifers so when a baby drops one I can find it at night before the dogs do.

As I hold my babies early in the morning, having a quiet moment, looking into their eyes, I think it’s unfair that they have longer, darker, thicker eyelashes than I do. I want my boys to have the best in life, but Mommy should really have the better eyelashes. I’ll be jealous if their eyebrows come in perfectly shaped and well-manicured looking. Yep, at four in the morning, these are my philosophical thoughts. :)
