July 21st, 2010 by Terri

Well my boys were 14 weeks old yesterday…time is flying by, it’s crazy. H&H are doing just great. Took them to the doctor today…Hayden having some acid reflux, left there with RX for Prilosec..good grief. He should be a new baby in a few days. Whew, he’s been a real bear to feed lately. Looking forward to pleasant feedings starting in a few days when the meds kick in. We took Harrison along just to weigh him along with Hayden. Hayden gained 1.7 pounds over the last month, putting him at 10.1 pounds. Harrison gained 2.2 pounds, putting him at 11.1 pounds now. Holy cow! They are getting big, and fast. My back is feeling it :)…up down up down up down.

Going to meet with a home builder tomorrow. We toured a few of their homes and fell in love with one of the plans. I think we may have found our house…it’s perfect for our family…plenty of space, plenty of bedrooms, media room, toy room, etc etc. It’s perfect, just perfect…exactly what we have been looking for and more. Now all I have to do is convince the husband we can afford it ;)

Busy weekend planned…the Glims and Daughertys are coming in town. I may make PaPa, Mimi, Uncle Brian, Aunt Kim, T&B watch the boys while I run off to the spa for the day. We’ll see.

Guess who’s wireless?!?….

July 8th, 2010 by Terri

Pulomonary doc just called and said monitor readout is perfectly normal on both boys!! No apnea issues, no high or low heartrate issues out of the ordinary. Yeah!! Calling tomorrow to have these damn things picked up and out of my house! Babies still sleeping anywhere from 6-8 hours a night…Mommy like. Things are well in the Glim household.

Is that a corner up ahead?!?

June 30th, 2010 by Terri

My babies were 11 weeks old yesterday! Such a short time really, and I feel like they have always been with me. I certainly can’t imagine my life without them now. It’s even hard to remember how it was before they were here. They are doing great, and still amaze me everyday. They are the most wonderful people I have ever met. They are growing into their own little personalities now and it’s funny to pick out what traits, or quirks,  they are getting from me, and which ones they get from Jason.  We’re getting little glimmers of smiles every now and then too. Nothing so for sure that it’s brought tears to my eyes yet. Jason however has gotten full face, real smile though. They spend all day with me; I think they are bored of me. :)

I’ve hooked boys back up to their apnea monitors for 8-10 hours every day so the pulmonary doctor can get a final readout on them.  I need to call the doctor and alert her that I’ve taken it upon myself to take them off the monitors 3 weeks ago. Any parent who’s ever had one (or two) babies on these things will understand. I’ve learned a whole new meaning to the word “patience”. Patience is NOT having newborn twin boys. It is NOT having preterm, newborn twins. It is NOT having preterm, newborn twins on apnea monitors. It IS however having preterm, newborn twins on apnea monitors that go off all the @#$% time for no @#$% reason. It’s kinda like a car alarm. You never hear one and think “hmmm, someone’s car is getting stolen”. No, you hear one and think “some idiot’s car alarm is going off for no reason”. Same thing here. After the first 3 days when we brought babies home that’s how it’s been. It was panic at first. Then it quickly turned into running into the nursery to see what the crap was wrong with the monitor, shutting it off, then checking to see if it woke our baby up. Don’t get me wrong, I’m extremely grateful the extra precaution was taken with our tiny babies in the beginning. And more grateful that the monitors have never gone off due to a medical issue. It’s just time to get these things out of my house and off my babies. I’m starting to think that the monitors were here to teach me patience, and quickly. Crying, fussiness, refusal to eat, spitting up, dirty diapers, etc etc etc have been managable for me so far, even with two. I haven’t lost it yet. I reserve the right to freak out at any time though, but so far so good.

Everyone keeps talking about this corner that is coming up where they will sleep better, and all night. Hayden and Harrison slept 6 1/2 & 7 hours last night!! I won’t get too excited until it happens on a regular basis, but I feel like we are making progress. And we went cold turkey on the pacifers, thank God for swaddlers….life is good.  Too early to tell if we are in fact coming up on that corner or not. Either way, it’s been a wonderful ride with them so far……   For those that don’t know, I quit my job at Baylor College of Medicine after we found out we were having two babies. People keep asking me if I miss my job yet…are you crazy?!? I’m loving this!

We are quickly growing out of our house now. These little people have a lot of stuff!! A year or so ago we brought a little acreage in a wooded neighborhood about 30 minutes outside of Kingwood, completely out in the country. Now that the babies are home and settled, Jason and I are itching to move. We’ve got our house picked out and are talking to some builders. This whole process should supply quite a bit of material for future blogs I’m sure. Kill me now :)

Sending another “thank you” out to everyone that continues to help us, be supportive, and is part of our boys lives. All the grandparents take turns coming over daily so I can get a few hours sleep, and I’ve got bags and bags and bags of boy clothes piled up from everyone. Other than the preemie stuff the boys wore in the hospital, and my designer diaper bag, we haven’t bought one single thing. Not one. Through the entire lengthy fertility process, to the chaotic birth story, to the extended NICU hospital stay and beyond, we have been amazed at how many wonderful people we have in our lives…people who love all of us and who have gone great lengths to help us out and be supportive. It’s amazing. “I’m grateful” just doesn’t seem like strong enough words.  I’m thrilled beyond belief that Hayden and Harrison will grow up surrounded by so much love.

Baby news…June 23rd

June 23rd, 2010 by Terri

Things are going well! Hayden weighs 8.10 and Harrison has passed him up weighing in at 8.15! Both have gained 4 inches of length since birth. Dr. Anderson says they are doing just great. Pulmonary doctor took boys off of the caffiene and wants to have a 2-3 week download of info on apnea monitors…then hopefully they can come off of them for good. She said they only need to be on them when they are sleeping….it’s been nice having my babies wireless finally. Need to hook them back up so she can have her final readings.

Baby news…May 5th @ 1:00 pm

May 5th, 2010 by Terri

Well today is a special day…today was supposed to be my delivery day!! Whew, glad that’s over. No one fret…I still intend on having pinatas filled with Jolly Ranchers, and fajitas for their birthday parties even if they weren’t born on Cinco de Mayo. :) Is it wrong to have margarita machine at a kid birthday party?!? They were three weeks old yesterday and it just seems like one big long day. All four of us have come a long way; it was a hard road but things are going wonderfully. Jason and I are tired, but happier than we have ever been in our lives.

Took the boys for first pediatrician visit today at Texas Children’s. Doc said they are doing great and that we are doing a fabulous job. Yeah! Hayden weighed 5.9 pounds, Harrison weighing in at a whopping 5.4 pounds; he’s catching up to is brother. Holy cow if I delivered today I would have been one miserable Mommy yesterday with my big boys in there. We’re going to see a pulmonary doctor soon to have her re-evaluate their apnea issues and see when they can get away from their monitors. Jason and I think they are doing fine, but we didn’t go to medical school.

Thank you Dad for the beef stew, and thanks to Norma Jean for the fettucine and banana pudding!! And thank you to Trish for taking our night shift feedings. It’s been a HUGE help being able to get 4-5 hours of sleep in a row; we are grateful.

Things are well at the Glim household……

Baby News…May 2 10:00 am

May 2nd, 2010 by Terri

Sorry for the delay….Hayden came home Thursday late afternoon. He’s doing wonderfully! Harrison was discharged Friday morning and is eating very well…doing just great. Both my boys are home! After resolving the issue with the apnea monitors going off for no reason every 10 minutes we are all doing well. Babies are still on schedule and sleeping well. Me and Jason are not sleeping much and have no clue what our schedule is. :) I’ve got Jason here for almost a month so this is great. All is well. More updates and new pics coming soon. I’ve got a baby to feed now……

Baby news…April 29 6:30 pm

April 28th, 2010 by Terri

GREAT baby day today! Harrison and I did another record time feeding for us, yeah! He is more and more alert (and awake) every day. He’s a different baby than he was a week ago; it’s awesome. His sleep study test results came back very similar to Hayden’s first one….some apnea, doc will start caffeine to help. Just like Hayden, they will repeat test in 12-48 hours to see how well caffeine is working. They figure he will respond to caffeine just as postively as Hayden did. No one has said anything yet, but I’m anticipating him being discharged on Monday. Keeping fingers crossed.

Hayden had a big day as well. We did record feeding for him and I, and we spent 30 minutes super wide awake talking. I think he’s enjoying his caffeine regimen. :) He spent the whole time grabbing for my face, sweet. His sleep study came back great. Not sure of all the medical details but he’s improved enough on the caffeine that he is getting discharged tomorrow. We are meeting with the respiratory therapist in the morning to get our apnea monitors for both boys, and instructions on how to use them, and what to do if they go off and babies have breathing episode.

We wish it were both boys coming home, but know that Harrison is on his way very shortly. Our little miracle babies. Can’t wait for everyone to meet both of them…soon, very soon. I told Jason we needed to go out tonight and get crazy since it’s our last night without babies at home…..sad thing is I’m WAY too tired. I guess that’s what babysitters are for!!

Oh, and the bears have been bathed finally!! Yeah! They knew I meant business too; I didn’t have to hold them at all. They stayed right there by me while I scrubbed on them. :)

Baby news…April 28 8:30 am

April 28th, 2010 by Terri

Good baby day yesterday. Spent all day at hospital. Both boys are doing well, feedings are going great. I had record feedings with both Hayden and Harrison, yeah! They were going to repeat Hayden’s sleep study test last night, and do Harrison’s first one last night as well. Should know results sometime today. It looks like both boys will most likely be coming home with apnea monitors for a few months though. No news on when they are coming home as of yet…but docs are saying maybe end of this week or weekend. Everything still tentative though.
